Ginger & Chuck – Sept. 25, 2011

IMG 0870 682x1024 Ginger & Chuck Sept. 25, 2011Ginger & Chuck were married the day after Melissa & Eric.  I bring this up because both weddings had similar elements and almost identical colors. In fact, Melissa graciously left the flowered arbor and some of her reception flowers and we were able to incorporate those into the flowers and decor Ginger and her talented friends had created.  I love it when that happens!  In fact, it’s not a bad idea to find out if there are weddings before or after yours and what they have planned. Sometimes with some pre-planning both events can enjoy benefits of the other or split the costs of some things that can be used twice.

Here’s the love story behind the bride & groom! Enjoy:

North meets South…
We met on May 28th, 2010.  So how does a native Tennessean meet a definite Yankee?  Mutual friends and a New York Vacation.  He was living in New York and I went there on vacation with my family and 2 girl friends.  We first laid eyes on each other Friday, spent all day together Saturday in Manhattan, and by Sunday we were both smitten.  It was basically love at first weekend.  My friends and parents had never seen me so smitten before.

The proposal…
After almost a year of quick weekend trips, late night skype sessions, and many annoying flight delays, we decided to move near each other. So he headed down south to Music City, Tennessee. After much awaited anticipation and a slow jeweler, he finally proposed on a park bench on our favorite walking trail in Percy Warner Park.  A few weeks prior he had given me a key with a sweet note that ended “P.S. You may want to hang on to this”. Apparently I’m notorious for ruining surprises so with no details he said, “it’s the only way I can surprise you”. Even though he may have been right, it was torture holding on to it. So one day while walking in the park together I noticed a box underneath a park bench. I eagerly went to open it.  It needed a key of course, which he hands over to me.  He tells me to not get my hopes up which made me so disappointed, because I thought all along the key had something to do with the proposal. As soon as I opened it I see a ring box inside. I look over at him, who by the way I had never seen so nervous before. He dropped to his knee, proposed, I said yes, and the rest is history…well, not exactly icon smile Ginger & Chuck Sept. 25, 2011

Sydney & Lucas – Oct. 16, 2011

10.16.11 Sydney Lucas 480 1024x682 Sydney & Lucas Oct. 16, 2011I knew when I saw their engagement photos that Sydney & Lucas had style!  I absolutely loved them – and Rachel Moore on of their best friends shot those.  Rachel unfortunately could not shoot their wedding because she was a bridesmaid but the talented Cali Ashton (Cali Ashton Photography) did an awesome job filling her shoes!

I’d like to say I had a hand in all the special touches but besides the photo booth area and things we already had in place (lanterns, tables, etc) the cute decor, flowers, cake, etc. all came from the talented and creative bride and groom and their families.  Enjoy all the details!  I especially love the groomsmens’ wardrobe!

Melissa & Eric – Sept. 24, 2011

Phindy Studios 0216 1024x682 Melissa & Eric Sept. 24, 2011

Melissa & Eric – They look like they both stepped right out of a magazine.  The photos Phindy Studios took are amazing. Their wedding day could not have been more perfect.  The love they share is so sweet and we genuinely enjoyed sharing this special day with them and their families.  But stop right there  – I said the day could not have been more perfect.  BUT, was their day perfect because everything went off without a hitch?  NO. I have to admit while it was picture perfect, it was not without it’s snags but just like marriage, it’s how you embrace and overcome the “trials” that make the triumphs all the more sweeter!  Eric & Melissa will have no problem focusing on what’s important!!

The morning started with no movers showing up to bring the church pews from storage and set up.  I spent an hour trying to find a crew and just when I thought I was going to have to tell Melissa no church pews, Brian and James stopped everything to get them all by themselves – and let me tell you they are extremely extremely heavy and so large that it takes multiple trips with the trailer. This put us behind a few hours but we worked quickly to get everything else in place.  Brian’s custom arbor was secured and the flowers arranged beautifully by the gals at Enchanted Florist.  We set up the reception, did the last minute clean ups, ran through rehearsal, assisted vendors and untangled ribbons hanging from the tree countless times. When it was time to put the flowers on the cake, Jessica (sister/cake baker/Matron of Honor) could not find them anywhere. I searched and searched and called the florist only to have her confirm they were left in the kitchen.  We never found them but Chef’s Market came to the rescue with flowers they brought for their decor.  We later figured out that somehow the cake flowers were used on the arbor!  During cocktails we lit the beautiful peach beeswax candles. They were fast burning and were gone before dinner was served! We replaced them with extras which of course melted  just as quickly.  The rest ran smoothly until send off when Eric had  trouble driving the very cool vintage car.  After some good-hearted laughs at his expense and a push by the groomsmen, Eric got it moving!

All these things are minor so why bring them up? Because the point is – even picture perfect has it’s reality.  The key is to put on those “rose colored glasses” (song by John Connolly) and only see the beauty of marrying the love of your life.  Nothing else matters! Your happiness will make your day  picture perfect as well.

Melissa Review of the day:

I cannot begin to express how thankful I am to Kathy and Brian for their help in making our wedding day truly perfect. Time and time again, we were amazed at the things they were able to pull off while staying within budget. My dad commented that the venue is indeed breathtaking, but Kathy and Brian and their connections, hard work, and genuine desire to make couples happy is the real reason why this venue is an incredible one (definitely opt to have her do your planning!!) Our wedding wouldn’t have looked half as beautiful without their help in the design, budgeting, and setup. Moving, working, and being in graduate school, I was so thankful that I was able to be as involved as I wanted to be, and she picked up slack when I just couldn’t!Our day could not have been better. We had guests tell us that it was the best wedding they’d ever gone to- the most beautiful, and the most fun. Our other vendors told us that they were fantastic to work with. Kathy and Brian Best’s venue is the perfect bend of warmth and professionalism that you want to be part of your celebration. To say that they went above and beyond is an understatement!!

 Phindy Studios 0252 682x1024 Melissa & Eric Sept. 24, 2011THEIR LOVE STORY:

Eric: Melissa and I met on June 7, 2004, at the ages of 16 and 15. We were both volunteering at Handycamp, a camp for adults with mental disabilities. She’d come up from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, to Indiana, where I lived, to volunteer there with her church. When I met her, the first thought in my head was, “I’m going to marry this girl.” This was crazy, as we’d barely spoken yet, but I knew I was in love when I saw her interact with the campers- she was amazing.

Melissa: It’s hard to know when you’re 15, but I think I can honestly say that, from that first week I met him, I knew that Eric was an incredible person, and wanted him actively involved in my life, as much as was possible, in whatever capacity he could be. We tried dating long-distance through the remainder of high school- lots of letters, lots of phone calls, an occasional visit. That was made a whole lot easier (a relative term!) when I moved to Nashville a few months after we met. We tried our best not to let distance get in the way, but the realities of living so far apart were hard. Yet, every time we were around each other it confirmed what we already were feeling, even being physically apart for so long- we very much loved each other, and Eric and I felt like we were perfectly matched for each other.

Eric: We decided to stop being ridiculous, and just fully give into love the summer going into college. Our problem was that we were going to different universities: Ball State in Indiana, and Belmont in Nashville. During freshman year, Melissa and I would visit each other at least once a month, driving 6 hours and 347 miles just to see each other for a weekend. Through some budgeting and lots of figuring, I did transfer to Belmont. Finally, after 3 years, we were able to date like a normal couple.

The school year was wonderful, we wasted no time in spending time with each other, whether it was writing papers together or staying up late in the dorm lobby playing scrabble online. The school year was over quickly and I went off to intern at Handycamp back in Indianapolis. We got to see each other sparingly during the summer, and once I was back in Nashville for the school year, she jetted off to Australia to study abroad.

Melissa: Luckily we weren’t new to the long distance relationship, however we’d never tried it over dramatically different time zones or continents! The next few months consisted of late night and early morning Skype dates, where we’d catch each other up on the days and weeks occurrences.  For his birthday, Eric’s parents surprised him with tickets to visit me in Australia and we were thrilled! After I got back, the rest of junior year was a blur, and before we knew it, we were anticipating senior year and the life afterwards.

Eric: Upon our graduation from Belmont, Melissa was accepted to a Master’s of Marriage and Family Therapy program, and I got my dream job at Emma, a Nashville company. Shortly after these post-graduation plans were concrete, we knew it was finally time. I purchased the pear-shaped diamond she’d been imagining since middle school. The day before she turned 22, more than six years after we first met,  I proposed to her in a gazebo on Belmont’s campus where, 4 years prior, I promised her I would transfer and we would try to date normally. I wanted to finish that promise and start a new one that would last the rest of our lives.

Eivar & Austin – Spt. 4, 2011 A Beautiful Rain Wedding

IMG 3439 copy 682x1024 Eivar & Austin Spt. 4, 2011 A Beautiful Rain Wedding

WEDDING DAY: September 4, 2011  THIS IS ONE EXAMPLE OF A BEAUTIFUL FRONT PORCH WEDDING IN THE RAIN!

Eivar was a planner’s dream – a bride with a beautiful spirit, creative mind and fun personality…also one who knew exactly what she wanted, had done her research and had a family with many talents like herself.   Eivar is graphic designer and designed all the printed materials – the invitations were adorable airplane tickets and passports  (Austin is a pilot) and there were party favor coasters, cards, and more!  She even designed and made little “doggie” treat cookies.  Her aunt did an amazing job on the cakes and the candy display was beautiful.  Her mother dyed all the aqua draping we hung in the rafters.  It was spectacular and the photos despite being gorgeous do not do it all justice!

Now for the kicker – it rained! And rained and rained!  If you want to see what a wedding looks like at Front Porch Farms in the rain than this is a great example.  What you will see is a ceremony in the pavilion with a packed house of guests who traveled near and very far.  The pavilion was already set for the reception but we improvised and made a ceremony area with the hills as the backdrop.  Guests were seated at their tables and did not seem to mind. Also,  beautiful shots of the bride, groom and bridal party on the front porches and lots of fun celebrating.

Yes it rained but it was still beautiful and no one enjoyed it more than the bride herself who didn’t let the weather spoil her day or her joy in marrying the man of her dreams.  Brian and I could not have enjoyed spending this special day with Eivar, Austin and all of their family and friends!!

LOVE STORY:

Austin and Eivar first met as seniors in high school. Although it was Eivar who initiated the spark by giving Austin her number, it was Austin’s charm and persistence that won her heart. After the young love birds graduated high school, they went off to college.  While Eivar stayed in Tennessee, Austin headed for Florida. Four years and fifty airline tickets later, they both graduated college in 2005 and their love for one another was stronger than ever.

Having the desire to serve his country, Austin joined the United States Coast Guard and entered Officer Candidate School in 2006. After seventeen weeks at OCS, Austin was back to the real world and re-united with the love of his life, Eivar. Together, they shifted into high gear and made their way to the “Big Easy” (Nawlins)!  Having so much fun experiencing life together, they decided it was time to start a family, and in January 2008, they welcomed puppy Luna into their lives. Enduring as much love for Luna as they did for each other, they welcomed a second addition, puppy McGregor aka  “Mac,” into the family clan a few months later.  Their journey as a family continued in Pensacola Florida. It was then that Austin knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Eivar and proposed to her while on Christmas vacation in December 2008 on a scenic cliff overlooking the Tennessee valleys. Not only did she say “YES,” but she also said, “it was about time!”  After eleven years of happily dating, Austin and Eivar are most certainly looking forward to the adventures that lie ahead as husband and wife.

Laurie & Grant – June 26, 2011

Laurie & Grant were married Sunday afternoon, June 26 at Front Porch Farms.  Laurie was a true DIY Bride. She and her lovely daughters plus some of their friends put everything together and it was beautiful. The entire day felt like setting up for a family reunion.  Everyone was happy to pitch in and Laurie did an amazing job plus still found time to glam it up for the special occasion.

Here are the details on how Laurie & Grant met (from Laurie):

It was a fortuitous April camping trip to Dale Hollow Lake with our kayaking Meetup group the day that we met. We (Laurie and Katherine) had already packed up our camping gear to return home as it was unseasonably cold the first night of camping. We paddled out across the lake in our kayaks to island-hop with our group of friends for day of fun and sun before the long drive home. As we hiked the first island, my buddy Tim noted a “straggler” just arriving back at the shore, kayak on the car. “I doubt that’s one of us”, I said, “I don’t recognize the car or ‘yak. I hope they’re not- they’ll never catch up with us!” I must’ve blinked twice and the paddler suddenly appeared via kayak on our island- I still don’t know how. I walked right up to the tall stranger and introduced myself. It was Grant. We paddled side by side that afternoon and have hardly been apart since. Oh- and the story wouldn’t be complete without two details: Grant actually rolled down a grassy hill during our picnic lunch that first day. A playful man doesn’t need a pickup line! When it came time to leave and I closed my car door on all the tightly-packed camping gear, I found myself subconsciously singing the chorus to a song written by a friend and heard last Christmas: “The wait is over, the wait is over……”
On New Year’s Eve on the remote island of Neebish in Michigan’s upper peninsula, after the toasts had been made and all had said good night, Grant proposed on the steps of my uncle’s cabin. I said yes, naturally.

Mark and I have known each other since Kindergarten.  We started dating June 17th 2005, the summer before our senior year in high school.  We were close friends that eventually came together as a couple.  One of the best things about our relationship is that we are truly best friends!0326re 200x300 Hope & Mark Wedding June 19, 20110744re 300x183 Hope & Mark Wedding June 19, 2011

During the summers when Mark and I are home from college we like to go walking in the afternoons.  We go to this beautiful walking trail in Ashland City.  We have been walking there together since we started dating.  It was just a normal day we were out walking on our trail and we pass over this gorgeous bridge.  All of a sudden Mark stops walking and I turn around to see what is wrong; all while he is asking me if I realized what date it is.  I thought for a moment and realized it was August 17th, he says yes it’s our “50th month anniversary.”  Then he proceeds to take my hand and get down on one knee and propose.  I was in shock!!! I was so excited, the sun was setting, no one was around, and it was really the perfect setting.

Mark and I are so excited about getting married!  We both are so ecstatic about spending the rest of our lives together!  We want our wedding to be a big celebration of our relationship with our family and friends.  We are very excited to spend this day at the beautiful Front Porch Farms.  We are so lucky to have found this place that fits us perfectly.

Their Love Story

184234 181365058572814 137926199583367 415310 4554555 n3 300x200 Erin & Ron May 21, 2011Ron and I met in 2007 at a Super Bowl XLI party.  I can be kind of shy upon first meeting and didn’t know many people at the party so I was very quiet.  Ron, who doesn’t know a stranger, could tell I looked uncomfortable and told his friends “I’m going to mess with her.”  He sat down next to me and the rest is history…well, not exactly.

Over the next two years, we ran into each other at a few more parties and once chatted in the cheese aisle at Whole Foods.  I always thought he was a nice guy, but never thought about dating him. After all, he had a beard and I wasn’t into facial hair.  We were friends on Facebook and some time in early 2009 we began talking via the “chat” feature.  We would sometimes spend hours messaging about the stupidest things. I think we were both just really bored at first, but as our chats continued, we started to look forward to them.  I liked that I could always make him laugh.  Somehow Ron’s love for fishing always came up in conversation.  I told him that I loved fishing and and he said he would take me any time I wanted.  ”When?” I responded.  I think he was kind of surprised I actually wanted to go, but we decided to go bass fishing on April 18.

Though it is now considered our first date, neither of us really considered it to be one at the time. However after that day, I decided I “kind of liked” him.  A week later, Ron confessed he had always had somewhat of a “kindergarten crush” on me and we have been inseparable ever since.  Ron jokes “I took her fishing and she never left.”  Though I didn’t catch any fish that day, I did catch a fisherman!

Last July, In the middle of a very busy summer, Ron suggested that Saturday, July 10 be reserved for “just us.”  That Saturday he woke me up very early and told me I needed to get ready and pack a bag and a dress and that we had somewhere we needed to be.  He wouldn’t give details, but I agreed and quickly put my stuff together.  I thought maybe he was taking me on a surprise trip, but he wouldn’t answer any of my questions.  We got in the car and drove to the Franklin Farmers’ Market.  I was confused about why I needed to pack a bag for vegetables, but he then told me he had several things he wanted to do that day and one of them was the Farmers’ Market (we had been wanting to go all summer, but hadn’t the chance).  After the Farmers’ Market we got back in the car and drove to Hillsboro Village.  He took me to All Fired Up pottery painting, where we had also gone for our one-year anniversary in April.  Since it had only been a few months since our last visit, I was surprised he wanted to go again, but I wasn’t going to complain because I love artsy activities.  I chose a utensil holder to paint and Ron chose a picture frame.  We sat down to paint and while I was taking time to design my piece, Ron began painting the frame the same shade of green over and over again.  Finally after four shades of the same color, I asked if he was going to do anything else to it.  He told me not to worry about it.  Finally, he switched colors and started painting black onto the frame.  He told me not to look at it, but when he was finished he asked if I wanted to see it.  He told me to close my eyes and when I opened them the frame was in front of me and read “I love you.  Will you marry me?” and Ron was on one knee with a ring.  I said “What??” and finally said “Yes! Of Course!”  It was funny because there were a few other customers and the employees in the shop, but no one noticed what was going on.  After pottery, he continued with a “day of Nashville fun” and took me to Fido, the Frist Center, and dinner at Prime 108 in Union Station (the reason why I needed to pack a dress).  It was such a fun day and he proposed in the afternoon, giving us plenty of time to call our family and field phone calls from our friends all day.

I fell in love with Ron because of his genuine personality and extremely big heart.  He has a dozen “best friends,” is a wonderful son, and an amazing fiance.  Everyone who meets him immediately sees his honest character and caring nature.  I’m very lucky that he chose me to be his wife.  I had no idea the man of my dreams was sitting next to me that Super Bowl Sunday, but I’m so glad we had the chance to become friends first.  I can’t wait to marry him on May 21!

Ashley & Quinn – May 14, 2011

Date: May 14, 2o11

To see all the great things about this wedding, please visit Wedlock Images blog

When I met with Ashley & Quinn and they wanted to book May 14th, I explained that Brian and I would not be able to be here for their wedding (due to planning Miranda and Blake’s wedding in Texas). We could do it, I would help coordinate but I’d have to hire someone to direct for the day. They agreed and things progressed. Thankfully Ashley & Quinn booked my neighbor and friend, Mrs. J’s Baking & Catering for their caterer. I knew they would be in good hands – not only is her food  fabulous and is one of our top preferred vendors, she and her husband Jay know everything about our property and everyone in the area if anything went wrong and someone had to be called.  We also had our friend James Taylor (no not the music guy) oversee production and set up and my friend/publicist Melissa Matthews direct.  Ashley not only had great style ideas but the talent to carry them off herself with her family. Ashley & Quinn were in great hands and I felt confident all would go well.

It came down to the day before and the forecast was not looking good…storm was coming while I was in Texas in sunny skies and heat.  Ashley and I talked a few times about rain plan options and the wonderful Diana Toomb at Classic Party Rentals came to the rescue with pavilion sides just in the nick of time. Having the ceremony in pavilion instead of in the front yard was made on the day of the wedding and everyone pitched in to make the change.  I was states away and so worried that Ashley would not have the day that she had hoped for. But the reports came in and all was well.   The main reason – Ashley and Quinn were flexible and they focused on what mattered most – each other, their friends and family. They might not have had exactly what they had planned but it didn’t ruin their day.

For me, I didn’t realize how hard it would be not to be there after getting to know them through the planning process. I felt like I was missing a dear friend’s wedding and I guess that’s what Brian and I love the most about doing this – we have made some great friends and memories ourselves with our Front Porch couples and their guests.  Here is a quick synopsis from the lovely bride – sent to me so I would know what I missed! Kathy

We got there at around 9 and didn’t set up til 11ish because of the tornado winds blowing. We had to rent the tent siding last minute. After that everything was ok and we started setting up and it all started coming together.

The one other thing that was stressful was that I forgot to pick up the Grooms cake the day before in Nashville. I still don’t know how I forgot!!! I was calling and calling and finally got an answer and had a friend go pick it up…thank goodness!

I was a little upset about the rain. Around 2pm it was misty and I made the decision to move it under the pavilion. I didn’t want family who had all come from so far to be wet and cold.

The ceremony was short and sweet. Quinn didn’t see me or know what I was wearing and I didn’t see him or know what he was wearing and man did he look handsome!!!! He cried more than I did in the ceremony! I was wearing his gandmothers gloves and he was so close to his grandparents so i knw that it meant a lot to him. When I walked out and saw him, I know that I had the biggest smile and i was so giddy. It was a moment I will always remember! My uncle got emotional when he came up to talk as well. Seeing all of our family and friends around us and us holding hands was amazing.

After that we did pictures and this was done very well and quick….our photographers were awesome and I would recommend them to anyone!!!!

Then It was dinner time….the food was amazing!! Everyone is still talking about it. In Quinn’s family they have so many cousins so they have been to alot of weddings and had a lot of bad wedding food. So this was one thing Quinn was very happy about and Celeste knew after Quinn came up for the third time!! I told her that boy could eat!! icon smile Ashley & Quinn May 14, 2011

We had our first dance, our dances with his mom and my dad. So sweet.

Our dessert table turn out so cute and everyone loved it and my aunt and grandmother did such a good job with the desserts! My grandmothers homemade jams were a huge hit!!!!!

We had dancing and everyone had a blast!! It was so much fun dancing, laughing, and just goofing off with everyone! We did our last dance and everyone circled around us to let us say goodbye. This was hard because we didn’t want it to end!

So….Besides the tornado winds, the rain, being a little cold, running a little behind and forgetting a few things it all went very well. I am proud of myself for not stressing and just going with it. I was more laid make then I thought I would have been but I think I was just so happy and thankful. It was perfect because at the end of the night we were married, all of our family was there, and we had fun!
James, Celeste and Melissa were great!!! Super duper nice!!
