Rain, Rain, Go Away! – Jenny + Brandon

When talking with our couples or inquisitive brides, we are often asked “What happens if it rains on our wedding day??” For many people this is a huge concern when planning an outdoor wedding. This past spring, Nashville had more than it’s share of rain weekends.  At Front Porch Farms, we have quite a bit of experience knowing what to do when that happens.  Our staff can easily move a ceremony & guests to the pavilion in a moments notice, dry off chairs, reset tables & decor, hand out umbrellas to guests – even dry a soaked groomsman’s clothes in no time just before the ceremony!

Jenny & Brandon had one of those rainy wedding days but as you can see from the gorgeous photos shot by Amber or Lotus Blossom Photography, our staff along with their friends and family worked together to make a memorable and fun-filled day.

Their ceremony was a perfect reflection of their unique, laid back style as a couple. The reception was filled with an eclectic mix of bright colors, elegant tea cups, and their favorite novels. Rain or shine- Jenny and Brandon were just excited to be husband and wife! We are sharing some photos and afterthoughts from the bride. Despite the strong winds and heavy storms it was a “happily ever after” day.

What do you remember most about the day or what was your favorite part?

Jenny: The most memorable part is probably the rain, or actually the monsoon. It completely started pouring right after our first look and continued on all the way through to our ceremony. The reception area was absolutely stunning. The ceremony space was breath taking. Lanterns in the trees, lights, books, teacups all of it was perfect. The rain came and left around six inches of water. Everyone worked so hard. They got everything to safety and got all the water up. I don’t know how they got the reception space redecorated, but it was stunning all over again.
My favorite part actually wasn’t photographed or caught by anyone. My husband and I took a bottle and two glasses and went and had a toast together by the pool. It was so wonderful to have a moment that was just ours, and to be able to just step back a min and truly experience this monumental chapter in our story together.

What inspired your theme/decor?

J: Brandon and I love to read. We are huge readers, and thankfully we love similar types. We also tea over coffee kinds of folks. So when someone asked what our theme was I said “Literary!” A lot of the teacups, pots, and books we already had and we liked how it all looked together.

Anything details that were unique or special to you?

J: We wanted our day to be laid back, fun, and completely true to ourselves. I didn’t wear shoes during the ceremony because I love being barefoot. We both wore converses and have worn them several times since. We had our officiant hold Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opened to the chapter The Unbreakable Vow during the ceremony. I wore my grandmother’s dress and lace that she and my mother both wore. It seemed like good luck since they have been married 51 years and my parents 28.

Any thoughts on wedding planning services or in-house floral design?

J: The flowers were so beautiful- I loved them so much! I wanted a sort of wild flower theme to go with my Mad Hatter’s tea party. (I actually plan to get a tattoo inspired by the flowers) Can not say how much I loved them enough!
[Front Porch Farm]’s services were fantastic. I appreciated the willingness to help make decisions that I couldn’t decide on. I really trusted the opinion and style of everyone involved. So I didn’t have to sweat the details. I knew they would have my back and make everything perfect and wonderful.

How did you and Brandon meet?

J: Brandon and I met through Tyler Elms, the Best Man, and his now fiancee Jessie Richards, a Bridesmaid. Jess and I met freshman year of college and became friends almost immediately, so I’ve known her and Tyler about five years. Tyler suggested Brandon and I meet, thinking we’d be a good match. After about a month of talking, we finally met in person. Brandon was in the Marine Corp at that time, and would be for another two years. I knew I was in trouble when he took me long boarding at this cool place on Base. I am not any good at long boarding, and have not improved. After successfully going forward about 10 ft. I over corrected and felt myself falling. I had already accepted my fate of biting it on the asphalt. I played rugby on the UT women’s team I was used to hard impacts. Then, to my complete surprise, I didn’t hit the ground. I look up and see Brandon grinning down at me having caught me about two ft. from the ground. All I could do was laugh. Yeah folks, I literally fell for him, and have every day since.

Glamorous Fall Wedding– Desiree + Mario

Who doesn’t love blush, neutrals and lots of bling? This color palette has been popular for quite a while but Desiree and Mario’s wedding included so many special touches and combinations of glam and sweet rustic touches, it was fresh, romantic and fun!

From the beautifully decorated cake placed on top of a hanging pallet to the white wash farm tables and gold sequin runners and table numbers, everywhere you looked there were comfortable southern furnishings accented with glitz & glam. Floral arrangements of white hydrangeas and pale pink roses were filled in containers of mercury glass & perched atop silver candelabras. Gold chivari chairs were tied with blush satin bows and round tables were covered with ivory rosette overlays and champagne petal linens.

Two Fat Men delivered a flavorful fare with appetizers of BBQ Egg rolls, Meat Balls and Collard Green Artichoke Dip with Homemade Tortilla Chips.   A plated dinner included a Caesar salad, Grilled Chicken Breast with Chili Plum Sauce, Beef Short Ribs with Demi Glaze, Herb Roasted New Potatoes and Brussel Sprouts -Thinly Sliced with White Alabama BBQ Sauce.

For dessert, the fabulous snicker-doodle flavored wedding cake from Jo’s Cakes & Catering and homemade cobblers in mason jars from Two Fat Men.

Whether you just need decorators to set up your décor, director to orchestrate the final details or a planner from start to finish, we have the experience staff to execute what you need. The following packages list a few examples of our involvement. With an in-depth conversation we can review all your needs and determine which level is for you.

The Day of Director package is for the couple who has the overall concept of their wedding planned out, is securing their vendors and narrowing down the majority of the details. They just need help organizing and orchestrating the logistics to make sure it all comes off without a hitch. Most of the responsibilities of the Day of Director can be easily completed through limited email or phone conversation. We do include 2 site visits as needed (this includes bringing family and vendors out and the final walk through). Documents created as your director.

Vendor Lists – Suggest vendors as needed.
Detail Sheet – List of vendors, contact information and important instructions for everyone working on the team. Includes rentals, décor lists and more.
Venue Layout – Examples of reception layouts based on preferences and guest count outlined on the detail sheet. Once you review, we’ll create a customized layout and supply to all your vendors.
Day of Schedule – Comprehensive schedule to include all activities for the bridal party, vendors and staff.
Rental Order – Both in-house and outside vendor rentals will be completed as soon as possible and revised with final counts one week before the wedding.
Décor Plan – Whether you & your volunteers handle décor set up or our staff, we will compile an organized task list of responsibilities to maximize time.

Don’t know where to begin? Some questions you might be asking: How do I plan a budget without knowing what things cost? How do I know the right questions to ask vendors? What should I expect from my vendors? How do I turn my Pinterest into reality?

If event planning is not something you typically do, how would you know these answers? What if you are planning a destination wedding or juggling a demanding schedule? No matter what the circumstances, we give you the tools and guidance to maneuver through the information highway and determine the best choices for you. Consider it a “short cut” only the locals know!

This package begins with all of the items in the Day of Director package but it will begin much sooner and with more of our time availability by the planner to help guide you in your decision making.

Budget Planning – A comprehensive budget review to make the best choices of vendors. Help determining how much to spend in each category and information on costs you may not have thought of gets your wedding off on the right foot.
Vendor contracts and meetings – The planner will guide you through these meetings by prepping you before hand and reviewing contracts before they are signed to make sure you know what you are getting and what you paid for.
Styling Recommendations – Everyone loves Pinterest but it’s easy to get caught up and confused with so many options. We will review yours to help guide you or offer original ideas to help you achieve exactly what is best for you. We will also discuss costs and logistics of the various ideas and style options.
Site Visits – We can accomplish a great deal by phone and online but package does include additional meetings or site visits as needed.
Decorating/Styling – Planner will oversee the décor plan and help with set up but for full decorating, additional staff will be needed (depending on the how extensive the décor plan is).

This package is all of the above and then some. Some couples have an idea for what they want but due to time constraints or lack of experience need a professional to take the lead and develop a comprehensive plan. That is what we are here for! We have planned spectacular events in as little as 4 weeks!

This package not only includes consulting, coordination and directing but is designed to bring the bride & groom fresh ideas and invaluable information. With regular communication, we will discover who you are and how you envision your big day (as well as entire wedding weekend) and use this information to bring personal and unique ideas to the table.

With our vast knowledge and experience working with vendors, we are able to offer assistance on all aspects of your wedding activities including travel and lodging, rehearsal dinner, spa needs, tourist attractions, transportation and of course a complete customized event plan, detailed timelines, to-do lists, vendor management plus décor & styling recommendations. We will handle set up and break down and every thing in between from guest relations, security needs and more.

Erica & Brent

Erica & Brent – May 31, 2013

Erica & Brent were so much fun from their wedding colors to their laid back attitudes.  In fact, GAC asked if they could shoot their Top 10 Wedding Songs Show at Front Porch Farms on the day of their wedding and they said “Sure! Come on!”  Nan Kelly hosted it with her husband and the crew filmed many behind the scenes scenarios as we worked.  The finale included the beautiful bride up on our balcony in her lovely dress.  Erica was breathtaking!   Erica & Kathy designed a beautiful country chic wedding featuring aqua table linens & mason jars, burlap & lace runners, wood slice table numbers and several DIY accents. The colorful flower arrangements were cheerful, affordable and the perfect compliment to the many flowers already at the farm.

Dana & Ned Wedding

Dana & Ned

Dana and Ned were wed under our giant Oak tree on the high shaded hill at Front Porch Farms. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day to have an outdoor wedding! Their wedding was elegant with pops of pale pinks and greens, pastoral touches, candles, and apothecary furniture. But to show their sense of fun and adventure, a fun photo booth was brought in for guests, a potbelly pig became the fifth groomsmen and fireworks lit the sky as they exited for the evening!  The day so relaxed and fun.
